March Birthday Madness

March Madness

This March the Convergence Chronicle decided to do something a little different.  In order to not only celebrate the birthday of our Editor, but also one year in Convergence; we interviewed Alexi Liam Alkaev to get his unique perspective of this lovely city and what it is like being the Owner/Editor/Chief of the Convergence Chronicle.

The Convergence Chronicle asked Alkaev to give us some of the basics and in his own words, "Yes!  Nineteen years old, early March, Pisces.  I can't spell 'Pisces.'  I always spell 'pieces.'  I was born in California during a very bad drought, so like any year.  I was born in a large hospital in down-town LA, and I never really left there.  I came here with my boyfriend at the time, and now late husband, Jack.  He had heard that there were people in Convergence that could teach us."

Alkaev has been in Convergence for an entire year and over that time he has lost many friends, and even his husband.  He and his husband acquired the paper with a group of friends and while many have either moved on, or passed on, Alkaev is dedicated to getting out the news as often as he is able.

"I can't believe all this <redacted> happened in ONE YEAR!"  Alkaev exclaimed in the middle of the interview.  He babbled about various stories including cats, goats, and then snapped his fingers pointing to the interviewer.  "Eona should love this one!  The Derpy Bear!"  After catching up on a bit of laughter, Alkaev went on to explain about a hunting trip that went terribly wrong.

"Seriously, I have NO idea what happened.  That thing was just horrifically huge, and stupid, but smart enough to kick our <redacted>."  He took a breath,  "I mean, like E went flying past and we were all just like, 'people can't fly!'  And WOOSH!"  He laughed while making a little airplane motion before rubbing at his eyes.  "Oh man!  And to top it off, <redacted> bees!"

It took a while, but we at the Convergence Chronicle were finally able to translate.  Alkaev and some friends went on a hunting trip where they came across a rather large bear.  They decided to kill it and make it dinner, but the bear had other plans.  Alkaev's friend Eona jumped onto the bear's back.  The bear rared up onto its hind legs and pitched Eona into the air, making her appear to fly; until she smashed into a tree.  This tree was filled with a hive of bees and the bees became angry and attacked the hunting party.  While they were successful in taking down the bear, everyone ended up jumping in the lake because they were covered in bees.

In the end the 'fun' hunting trip landed the entire group in the Nexus.  Many had scrapes and bruises lined with copious amounts of bee stings.  Eona had to have a small bit of wood removed from her from being thrown into the tree and lots of them needed to get steroid shots so they would stop swelling from all the stings.  In the end, 1/10, wouldn't fight a bear again.

Oddly enough, while the Convergence Chronicle was interviewing Alkaev, we received a call from the CSA.  This shows just how many hats Alkaev truly wears.  In addition to being the Owner and Editor of the Convergence Chronicle, he is also one of the Managers of the businesses in the Silk District.  A CSA Agent wished to drop a citizen off in the Silk District and needed someone 'in charge.'  The Convergence Chronicle tagged along to watch Alkaev in action.

While Alkaev is largely seen as a fun-loving teenager who guzzles energy drinks and wears brightly colored clothing, he is also very knowledgeable about the city and has a motherly attitude.  He can take charge of a situation and direct people with calm, intelligence and grace under pressure.  The individual was handed over by the CSA, given a brief run-down of Convergence and Convergence Law and sent on their way to hopefully not have any future difficulties or scares.

Alkaev has spent an entire year going through terrible hardships including comets, floods, monsters, encroaching armies and even the death of his own childhood sweetheart.  There is none more suited to bring individuals the news of Convergence.  We at the Convergence Chronicle thank Alkaev for spending time to answer questions and share his experiences of a year in Convergence and many months bringing you the news.
